Auto Insurance and Driving Guides

Information to help foreigners understand car insurance, accidents, roadside assistance, and driving in Korea.

Accidents

What to Do After a Car Accident in Korea

Please contact us as soon as possible after an accident. We will dispatch a field representative to the scene. Depending on traffic conditions, the representative usually arrives within 10 to 30 minutes. After speaking with the representative, we will let you know the estimated arrival time. Because questions or disputes may arise later, take several photos of the accident scene from different angles before the vehicles are moved. Once our representative arrives and confirms the necessary details, you may leave the scene. We can also arrange a tow truck when needed. We will keep you updated throughout the claims process and do our best to make sure you are treated fairly.

Roadside Assistance

How Roadside Assistance Works in Korea

Roadside assistance services include battery jump-starts or replacement, tire repair or replacement, lockout service, emergency vehicle recovery, and towing. You can receive up to six complimentary roadside assistance services per year. Simply call or text us, and we will confirm your location and dispatch a roadside technician immediately. The technician usually arrives within about 15 minutes, and we will give you a more accurate estimated arrival time after speaking with them. Once you have used all six complimentary services, additional roadside assistance will still be available for a fee.

Insurance History

Using Overseas Auto Insurance History in Korea

Regardless of how long you have been driving, Korean insurers generally treat you as a new driver if this is your first car insurance policy in Korea. As a result, your premium can be significantly higher when you first apply. To avoid this, send us proof of your previous auto insurance issued by an overseas insurer. Your overseas insurance history can help reduce your premium in Korea. The documents must show completed or expired insurance periods totaling at least one year. Proof of a policy that is still active cannot be accepted. Two completed six-month insurance certificates are also acceptable.

Policy Management

Changing or Canceling Your Insurance Policy

We have made the process of changing or canceling car insurance as simple as possible for our customers. For policy changes, simply send us the details by text message or email, and we will usually process the request within one hour. For policy cancellations, we will let you know which documents are required based on your situation. With your authorization, we may also contact the relevant government office directly to obtain the necessary documents. We will help arrange a refund for the unused portion of your policy, calculated from the effective cancellation date through the original expiration date. We cannot receive the refund on your behalf. The refund will be paid directly to your bank account or processed as a partial cancellation of your credit card payment.
